The individuation of Existence
"Table of contents
Preface
The concept of The Apprentice God is totally not new. In fact it happens every second of the day.
Every child who is born, needs to learn from scratch.
Everything is new for him/her. Every experience is new, without any conditioning from the past. She /he is thrown in a Earthly experience, for a moment, in a body, temporarely.
The phases she/he is going true is called by Carl Gustav Jung :The individuation of existence.
This cycle described with archetypical images, is the same cycle The Apprentice God has to go true. The symbols represent the path set up for every pupil, who volunteered to go up the path of individuation, becoming a individual, a cocreator within God.
The individuation of existence
The concept is that the individual or ego is dumped on the planet and
needs to find his way on it, grow from a rookie to a pro, a hero; a
non believer to a believer.
He has to learn the rules of the game. He makes his first moves, and
trying to master this he creates personalities each one representing
his beliefs, his conclusions of how he thinks the world turns. He
makes lots of mistakes and end up with a huge amount of subego's,
little voices inside his head who`s goal can be totally different
from each other, a totally useless bunch of heroes who know best: a
hero of thousand faces.
We all have to go through this phase and the other session with the
cards is an other but simular way to tell the same.
Understand the individual can and normally will be very confused who
he is. I even dare to state that he is almost unable to collect all
his subs and merge them into one self without much effort. This is
the real explanation of individuation.
It is said that we live in a very egocentric, egoistic world. I don't
agree a second time. I agree that many (me included) individuals are
not mature enough to take there responsability of there own actions,
take responsability and act interdependend. So for my opinion there
is no such thing as a bad ego; he is merely not mature enough for the
responsabilities he is given. So more ego is needed, more
individuation. The ideal ego is the one who knows he is
interdependend with everything around him in the world. `We are one'
or `there is only one but you' are two totally different expressions,
stating the same concept.
So again, in this session I would like to present the twelve
mainstream subego's who represent conceptual the inner voices of
mankind. Don't be sad if you recognize them, if not all. We are
learning...
Thus this is the story of the hero with the thousand faces who would
like to become the holly Self.
Thefirst group of archetypes are situated at the preparation phase of
the ego.
They are The Innocent, The Orphan, The Warrior and the Caregiver. But
this is enough for me today. See you tomorrow. And please remember
the number 12 in my explanations. See the bigger whole...
The individuation of existence 2 : Heroic Myth Index
Before we start, an explanation of the goal of this.
Every inner voices keeps us away from being centered, to stay awake,
to be authentic.
These exercises and thoughts are to learn you to observe them closely
and to make you notice how they control your life in stead of you
controlling your life.
No one does not have to pass this road in his life, in one of his
lives, so why not now. This is not to take you down, but to wake you
up in the end, to wake myself up.

The Innocent
The Innocent helps establish the persona, the mask we wear in the
world, our personality, our social role. Although this external
image lacks depth and complexity, it provides us and others with a
sense of who we are and what can be expected of us.
The question is asked to every child: `Who are you going to be when
you grow up?'
As adults we identify ourselves by the jobs we do and our life-style.
The Innocent within wants to be loved and be part of things. It wants
to fit in at best social adaptive, at worst as a criminal.
The Orphan
The Orphan is the cynic, who sees which of our qualities will have to
sacrified, or go underground to fulfill the image of the Innocent.
The Orphan is the part of us that learns to recognize and thus avoid
situations that likely are going to hurt us. It tries to protect us
from being abandoned, hurt or victimized. To do this, it may act on
knowlegde the person can not even acknowledge having, thus becoming a
secret and valuable, but hidden, sidekick.
The Warrior
The ego wants to get its needs met, but also cares how they are met.
The Warrior helps with this task. When the Warrior is acting strictly
in terms of self-interest, it is helping to develop the ego. The
Warrior brandishes the sword to cut off anything that seems to
threathen survival of the body, the ego, our integrity.
The Caregiver
The Caregiver develops a sense of morality and care for others. It is
concerned about the good of others as well as ourselves. It is
concerned not only with our children and people, but also with the
good of humanity. It has the ability to sacrifice the lesser for the
greater good.
The journey to the soul
Our ego wants to be immortal, to be safe, to be succesfull,
prosperous, loved, and above all wants the world to make sense.
But the soul, whatever it is, has an other point of view. He is
merely interested in the journey., the learning about death, passion,
sex, ecstacy, the beauty of all.
This is in essence the split between the right and the left brain.
It is difficult for the ego to understand the soul. The Innocent
wants to deny unpleasant truths, while it is asked from the soul to
have faith. The Orphan takes death and suffering as further
indication that life is not fair while the soul ask to learn and
experience. The Caregiver and the Warrior both try to protect his/the
world from suffering while the soul doesn't see any suffering, has no
need for control nor goal.
There is nothing wrong with a balanced build ego, but it often
doesn't understand it has to empty itself after being constructed. He
has to give away control and deal with the soul.
He is the chariot not the horses pulling it.
And the soul it does come. Sometimes through insights but most often
with a bang.
Suddenly in the middle of nowhere it strikes and the ego gets
desoriënted …hard.
One becomes discontented with the things around you, what happens,
what you do, did.
The world doesn't fulfill your needs anymore, you get desoriënted,
feel empty, depressed.
The plug has been pulled, and the ego's content is flowing out.
You want to change, become real, genuine. Every one has to go through
that phase. Sometimes it takes awhile, sometimes a lifetime.
The following archetypes represent the journey of the hero towards
the soul. The Seeker corresponds to the spirit, the Destroyer to
change, the death wish; the Lover to Eros, the life force, and the
Creator to imagination.
The Seeker
The Seeker? seeks enlightment and transformation, but initially is
very controlled by the thinking of the ego. He thinks its about
becoming better, more accomplished, succesfull, perfect.
The Seeker journey requires courage to break free from dependency a
go ahead to the unknown.
The Destroyer
The Destroyer breaks open the door, the suppressed Orphan. He smells
the treasure in the cave, but can not see it through the ego.. He is
the Rebel without a cause because still under the influence of the
ego he only sees matter. So he kills; ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
The Lover
The Lover wants to reunite things. He is the symbol of the Holly
marriage, the marriage with the Self, undivided. But influenced by
the ego he looks for love in the outer World. The over is the dreamer
of a better world somewhere, somehow.
The Creator
The Creator helps awaken the seed of our genuine identity, deep
within us. It creates many projects and ideas, but often chained
still by th ego, they are all over the place, and become one by one,
unsatisfying.
Pinocchio
Pinoccio is a well-known example of children's literature dealing
with the process of becoming real. In Pinocchio, Gepetto longs for a
son and carves the puppet Pinocchio out of a Block of wood. Then the
Blue Fairy appears and grants the puppet the capacity to move on his
own. Together, Gepetto and the Blue Fairy (symbolic respectively off
ego and spirit) can make a well-behaved puppet, but only Pinocchio
can earn the right to be real.
At First, he is a `good' little puppet and does everything he is
supposed to do. His First sign of indepence is an act of disobedience
and betrayal of Gepetto, the Blue Fairy, and his little cricket
conscience. He goes off with the rowdy Lampwick to Pleasure Island.
Like most of us, when he begins trying to follow his bliss, he is
sidetracked by trivial pleasures ( eating Candy and destrying
property).
Pinocchio descends into the dephts of instinctual pleasure seeking,
but escapes just in time when he recognizes that he and his friends
are turning into donkeys. This disorienting experience so shocks
Pinocchio that he begins to see the World very differently.
On the symbolic level, living life only at the level of the ego is
like being a robot, toy, or other inanimate object. The hunger we
feel is for a more genuine experience. The quest wit hits call to
spirit is only the First step in finding such genuineness. Initiation
shakes up our way of seeing the World and requires us to connect with
our deeper wisdom to understand what is happening to us. This
initiation may in some way anticipate the experiences of suffering,
deprivation, and loss brought by the archetype of the Destroyer, the
Capacity for genuine and passionate love and connection associated
with the archetype of the Lover, and finally, the Union with one's
soul, which allows for the birth of the new self (creator)
The Self
Earlier we met the process from Ego to Soul. Now there is a second
process which is less understood by mankind , maybe simply because it
is not common seen nor experienced in the world.
This process is from soul to self. Here also the soul has to give in
to the self, the same way the ego had to do in his days. This process
is often experienced as a paradox. This is so because most of the
time when we are confronted with Self our ego is still very alive and
kicking.
As the ego more or less understood he has to give way to the higher
cause, see the oneness in the world, the self doesn't want anything.
He merely is. For the ego this concept is experienced as very
offensive. He knows how to fight but getting somewhere without
fighting is simply incomprehensable. To stop making sense , is for
him a bridge to far. And indeed it is, seeing it from his point of
view. The next process is going to a place where senses no longer
have much value, if any. The ego/soul has to go through a door which
for the ego just is not there.
Be without doing
Do without a goal
Express (yourself) without thinking about what you are expressing
Think without the thinker
Observe without any inner voice.
This is completely ridiculous for the ego. You can better ask him to
die, this he at least understands, but this he can't comprehend, and
this is what he thinks you ask of him. The ego is not capable to get
a grip on not existing stuff.
The journey for the Holly Grail starts here.
Understandable most quests end here. There is nothing more to say,
nothing more to do without the ego seemingly not out of the way, so
the ego thinks.
Here all sexes are rather masculin. The male ego/soul has to
surrender to Eternal Love/The Goddess/Gaia. The eternal mother takes
over , as if it was a black hole.
And the rest is silence.
The only way out I can think of at the moment, see; struggling with
the same paradox is through the archetype the Fool. This is why I do
this exercise with you. I'm learning, and I hope you do to.
The Ruler
The Ruler is associated with the creation of psychological wholeness
and order The uler's goal is the creation of a single, unified, fully
manifested Self. The main function of a Ruler is to order the
kingdom, and the result of the process is a sense of peace, unity,
and harmony: all the dispersed pieces come together. A good example
is King Arthur of the Round Table.
The Magician
The Magician is the element that can continually heal and transform
the Self when the order gets to rigid. It acts as an agent of
regeneration and renewal, for oneself and others. That is the part of
the psyche that can integrate dark pieces of the Orphan and transform
them into usefull energy.
The Sage (Wise)
The Sage is the part of the psyche that is experienced in
meditationas the objective Self. It watches our thoughts and
feelings, but does not indentify wit hit. In such the Sage help sus
face whatever is true in our lives and transcend our smaller selves
to be one with cosmic truths. When we stop fighting truth, we can be
free.
The Fool
The Fool is the element of the psyche that reprsents multiplicity of
consciousness. Like the Court Fool makes fun of the King and everyone
around who has power the Fool takes away the trying to make to much
sense. He does this ideally without being offensive. The Fool teaches
us that we are always expressing one of the sub's never the one Self.
He is the forerunner of the new Self, and being able to laugh with
it, not taking any situation to seriously, he shows to way where to
find our true self.
All things look brighter when humour is around.
And nothing else matters….
